Weight training has always been the type of training associated with body builders. Most recently it has been hailed as one of the best forms of exercise for firming up and losing fat by many people including Oprah Winfrey. The effectiveness of this exercise is based on the scientific research that proves that larger and stronger muscles use up more energy at rest.

As an example, for every 1,5 kg of muscle mass that you gain, you will need an extra 9,600 calories per month to break even. This form of exercise is especially effective in reducing body fat in woman due to the fact that a woman's body has very low testosterone levels. The understanding that weight training will make a woman's body bulky and manlike is a myth.

The woman's body will show an increase in muscle mass, but not to the extent of pictures you see in the body building magazines. Another benefit for women is a reduced risk of osteoporosis. On a progressive weight training programme and a correct eating plan, both sexes change the way look and feel forever.
